Today we visit the new Costco South Indianapolis location
On June 27, 2016, Costco South Indianapolis opened its doors at 8:00 am for the first time to a line of eager members. Costco South Indianapolis is the third Costco location in the Indianapolis area, and the fifth in the state.
I was there for both their VIP party, which is the night before grand opening, and their opening day. I always try to go to a few Costco openings a year, and the locations that I’ll visit differ based upon my travel schedule and where the new openings are located.
I go mainly for all of the free food that they have on VIP night, but a part of me also likes going just to see what an amazing job Costco does at every grand opening. The impressive part is the standards that you see on VIP night and opening day are the same standards that they maintain even years into the future. It is those high standards that has helped Costco’s member base to grow to 80+ million members.
The Costco South Indianapolis location was no different in terms of quality than any other recent opening I’ve been to. Their merchandising was superb, with their pallets filled and everything looked as if it had been set up with laser precision.
The fresh departments were rocking and rolling with the bakery clearly being the star. Their products looked so superb that I almost put a pause to my diet to pick up a pack of their red, white, and blue short bread cookies.
The meat department had a large display of their top tier prime steaks, and the service deli was selling their $4.99 rotisserie chickens as if they were giving them away for free. It felt like every cart leaving the warehouse had a service deli rotisserie chicken in it.
If you are ever at a Costco opening, you’ll want to make sure that you stop by their clothing department. They are always going to have some special opening offers. This time around they had a variety of Lacoste clothing for men and a lot of different Nike items for men, women, and children. When it comes to shoes, they were also selling some fancy looking Sperry’s for men. Most of those items they will only carry until they sell out.
This warehouse has also brought back the full sized photo department. If you remember, last year I went to all of the Costco grand openings in Pleasant Prairie, New Berlin, Menomonee Falls, and Grand Chute. All of those locations had done away with the photo department in favor of their small photo kiosk. I am glad that they are bringing back the full sized photo department. While you could have had most of the same services done at the photo kiosk, it just took longer. There’s also something about having a photo employee there to help you pick out your best pictures to print.
On my way out of the warehouse on grand opening day, I stopped by the gas station to fill up the car before heading on my way. It was very pleasant to see that gas was only $2.09 a gallon, which was about thirty cents cheaper than the nearest gas station.
I was happy to have been able to find time to make it to the Costco South Indianapolis opening. I wanted to wish the entire staff at the Costco South Indianapolis location a congratulations and best of luck in the future. All of your hard work really showed, and it provided some great pictures for the blog.
